How Tijuas Tacos Began
Tijuas Tacos began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when our family faced an uncertain and difficult time. My wife had lost her job, and my income alone was not enough to support our family. We needed to find a way forward.
For years, my wife had prepared her special birria recipe for Christmas, holidays and family celebrations. Everyone in our family loved it and regularly encouraged us to start selling it, but we never seriously considered turning it into a business.
During the pandemic, we finally took that chance. We started with a small outdoor food stand outside our mobile home, selling birria and tacos to our neighbors and community with help from our children. It was a humble beginning, but people loved the food, returned for more and began spreading the word.
Before long, we were selling out every weekend and had to prepare more and more birria to keep up with demand. Seeing people genuinely enjoy our food gave us the confidence to continue growing.
After saving enough money, we purchased a small food truck and began serving near Unser and Central alongside two other food trucks. The location became so popular that eventually approximately 30 food trucks were operating in the area. When the city later closed the food-truck area, we decided that it was time to take the next step.
Because of the support and success we had experienced, we opened our brick-and-mortar restaurant on Osuna Road in 2024.
